下面我们要讲的两个习惯用语都和back有关。首先我们要讲的是：to turn ones back on someone。从字面上解释，这是把自己的背对着某人。可是，实际上这是指根本不理会某人，或不肯给那个有困难的人任何帮助。下面这个例子是一个弟弟在抱怨他的哥哥：
例句-1: i wont ever forgive my older brother - he turned his back on me and refused to lend me any money when i lost my job.

大家常常可以听到有的丈夫抱怨说，自己的太太在家里老是唠叨个没完，说他家务事做得不够，衣服到处乱扔等。美国人用一个字来形容这种爱唠叨的现象，那就是：nag。nag这个字的意思就是没完没了地唠叨，让人听起来很烦燥。但是，这个字不是用来专门形容太太的，它还可以用在其它方面，例如，下面这个例句里的工人把这个字用在他老板身上：
例句-1: i like my boss except for one thing - hes always nagging me about getting to work on time. im never more than five minutes late, and thats only when the bus doesnt show up on time.
这个工人说：我的老板什么都挺好，就是老是嘱咐我要按时上班，唠叨个没完。实际上，我即便晚到也从来没有超过五分钟的，而那也只是在公共汽车晚到的时候才会发生。
这句话里的nag是个动词，但是，nag也可以用做名词来形容那些不断批评别人，要别人按着他的意志行事的人。下面就是一个例子：

例句-1: "one thing really gets my back up -- the way my husband leaves his clothes on the bed or on the floor so i have to pick them up all the time."
她说：“我的丈夫总是把衣服往床上、地上乱扔，我老得把它们拣起来，真叫我生气。”
可是，妻子的批评使做丈夫的很生气。他对朋友说：
例句-2: "and theres one thing that really gets my back up: my wife nagging at me to hang my clothes up as soon as i walk in the house at night after a hard day at the office."

例句-3: "this senator from the 11th district scratched my back when he voted for my bill to cut state income taxes, so its my turn to do him a favor and vote for that bill for more money for roads in his district."
